In the movie, “Amazing Grace,” which tells of the story of William Wilberforce who strove to abolish slavery and the slave trade in Britain, there is a key line by his wife. “the people will get their compassion back once there fear is gone.” What an interesting line. How many of us are judgmental or prejudice because of fear? How many of us are fearful of what is happening in the economy and so we are losing our compassion? The yelling, aruguing and name calling. Is it because of fear?
How many in an alcoholic or addict home are yelling and ranting because we are fearful? We feel powerless. We don’t know what to do. Perhaps God, can dispel our fear and compassion can return. Perhaps God can heal our fear and we can have compassion on ourselves. Without compassion we cannot be saved from this disease. It thrives on anger, resentment and fear. With compassion we can see what it is doing to us and those around us. Isn’t it with kindeness that God leads us to repentance? (Romans 2:4 – “Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness , tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance?”
May we all be granted more kindness and compassion through God’s grace.
By God’s Grace,
